Cribbage is a classic English card game and has a long and honourable history. Traditionally, cribbage is believed to have been invented by Sir John Suckling who died in 1642, although it is more likely that Sir John modified and popularised an existing game, Certainly Charles II played cribbage while exiled in France and by the beginning of the 18th Century cribbage was played as widely as whist.
Cribbage's continuing popularity is due to it being one of the few card games which can be played equally enjoyably with 2, 3 or 4 players. A game will take about 20-30 minutes and can be played simply for fun or has been known to be played for small stakes. Scores are kept by placing pegs in the holes of the Cribbage Board. The simple rules are easy to grasp and make this one of the most popular and compelling card games in the world today.
